We are an alliance of regional organizations in Northwest Washington State that all are impacted by Navy warfare training, especially the incredibly loud Growler jets that train low over our homes, schools, hospital and waters. We've banded together to challenge the expansion of the number of jets at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island - and the 300% increase in training flights over our farmland and the historic/tourism dependent town of Coupeville. We are NOT anti-Navy or anti war. We support our local military base, but want the jets to train elsewhere.
We want a logo that is positive, that we have put up with these jets in service to our country but no more because our local businesses, tourism, farms, health, kids are all being far too impacted already.
The name Sound Defense Alliance plays on three meanings of sound:
sensible or well-reasoned
the actual roar of the jets
Puget Sound, the huge body of water bordering our islands, the Olympic Peninsula and the cities of Everett, Seattle and Olympia are located.
We look forward to some creative ideas about a logo that represents us!
This is our basic statement of who we are and what we want:
For decades, the communities of NW Washington State have been a partner with the Military in protecting our national security. Now, our communities are collateral damage of the Growler program because of the incredible noise, pollution, and economic impacts. The latest proposal by the Defense Department dramatically increases the number of Growler jets and flights putting us all at risk. It’s time we stand up for our communities.
