The Ammachi Project is a photo and video documentary that began in mid-2008, shortly after I bought my first dSLR camera. What started as casual picture-making quickly morphed into a project. Filming has been underway since January 2012. A photo book is also in the works. What does it mean when a woman from a traditional South Asian culture -- where elders are cared for by relatives until death -- ends up in a nursing home because of her cantankerous personality? That's mine to answer.
My grandmother is part of a growing population of South Asian seniors who have been moving into nursing homes. Several nursing homes and assisted-living facilities have been erected throughout the United States to cater to this growing subset of the elderly population.
The film will have a quirky sensibility to it. Although it deals with a serious topic, it will not be treated in a dreary manner.
I am a fan of Helvetica, light and bold. I'm into modern, balanced serif fonts, like Garamond and Georgia.
