My readers are 65% women (but bloggers and buyers are more like 85% women). The men don't want to be alienated by TOO-feminine logos. Look at my blog last month on GreenSmoothieGirl.com where a couple hundred of my readers sounded off about the too-sexy logo I had designed.
My readers are conservative. One idea is a hand held out flat, with a beautiful glass balanced on the palm, containing a bright green, mysterious elixir that reminds us of youth and beauty and energy. It says "GreenSmoothieGirl."
Another idea is a ponytailed girl in profile (a silhouetted avatar that could forever represent the "green smoothie girl") holding the magical green drink. In the words GreenSmoothieGirl in the logo, I would love to see greens, veggies, or fruits used SIMPLY, but elegantly. I want eating wholesome raw plant foods to be CONSERVATIVELY SEXY.... reminding us that in them we have a fountain of youth. With a diet rich in these colorful foods, we regain our health and energy and ideal weight.
I don't want an overly detailed logo, because I want it to be iconic. I lecture to packed crowds all over the U.S. and people want a PIED PIPER showing them how the right FOOD can slow down the aging process.
I don't want a super-minimalist logo either. Something in between? The colors will be BRIGHT and exciting. Not retro or excessively modern.
The silhoutte/avatar, if you try a concept like that, can't be sexy like a mud-flap chick, I learned from the feedback on my blog. "Cute" rather than overtly sexual.
Your OWN ideas are welcomed! We are not designers and are excited to see what you come up with! Your logo will be seen by millions as the site and books are exploding and the message is very viral--business became viral within months, and we may want to hire you to do lots of other collateral!
