About the industry: A common misconception about voiceovers is that they only encompass funny cartoon voices, commercials or "In a World..." like movie trailers.
On the contrary, "commercial" voiceover work only makes up 5% of all voiceovers.
About me: I'm an MBA and former Engineer turned Voice Over Talent. I tend to be a little more educated than most of my peers (other Voice Over Talent) and have a bit more corporate experience under my belt. Naturally, many of the jobs I book are about business or technology. Thus I'm sometimes referred to as "The Business and Technology Voice Over Specialist".
About my voice: My voice acting instructors describe my voice as Intelligent • Confident • Businessman • Sincere • Honest • Matter-of-Fact • Grounded • Endearing • Thoughtful
An example of two voiceovers I did that I think really communicates my target audience and skillset well:
About where my logo will be displayed: It will be displayed as a profile picture on a website that connects voice over talent with companies looking to hire a voice over talent. In other words, I want to stand out for the right reasons so that a company looking for my kind of voice hires me.
What I want my logo to communicate:
- My business and technology expertise (perhaps via acronyms such as "MBA" and "B.S." which might appear after my name or initials of my name, etc.)
- Knowledge, trust, professionalism, virtue, etc.
What my logo shouldn't contain:
- A cartoon or graphical representation of me (in most cases, using a picture of you limits your opportunities as a voice over talent)
- An in your face and overused voiceover image (microphone with my initials or name on it, etc.) However I have no problems with subtle images of a microphone, recording booth, etc.
An example of a logo that I believe communicates the voiceover artist's brand well: http://tinyurl.com/SampleVOLogo
However, I DO NOT want my logo to look anything like the sample link above. This is just an example of a logo that I believe effectively communicates the type of voiceover work the artist would do and what they might sound like via colors and objects in the logo.
Please feel free to ask any questions, I'm really look forward to seeing your designs. And from one artist to another, thank you in advance for your creativity!
