Legal Literacy Volunteers (LLV) was developed and is operated by the Launceston Community Legal Centre (LCLC) a not-for-profit organisation providing free legal advice to the community within a variety of areas.
The LLV operates as a community service with the twin aims of improving document literacy and problem solving in the community. The LCLC has trained teams of local volunteers (who are NOT lawyers) located in eight communities across the North East of Tasmania. We are looking to expand this service across the rest of Australia. LLV’s work with local clients to address issues surrounding all kinds of official documentation, government forms and other complex documents and to identify where legal advice is required BEFORE their situation becomes critical.
The Legal Literacy Volunteers program is supported by and has access to our team of solicitors for FREE legal advice and support should the need arise.
The program is predicated on the LCLC vision of "Promoting social justice by improving access to the legal system and educating people about their legal rights."
