Need for a New Logo
One or more new, related logos are needed for a recently-launched website: http://www.themostimportantnumber.orgÂ
About The Website:
The site was launched in December 2007 to promote ongoing awareness of accelerating CO2 in the atmosphere which is the primary greenhouse gas responsible for global warming and climate change. The belief is that increased, ongoing awareness—beyond the advances made possible by Al Gore and the International Panel on Climate Change—will prompt more human attention and innovation to bring about an early peak in CO2 levels, and then a long term decline. The site is run by private individuals from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Presently, the site is extremely modest and no efforts have been made to promote the site. Work is underway to develop a world class web site with the help of leading-edge, open-source technology (Ruby on Rails v. 2.0).  As a the next step, the site creators are looking for world class graphics.  Â
Types of Logos
Up to three types of logos may be submitted:
1.     Word logo without pictoral or graphic design elements (other than font graphics)
2.     Graphic logo without words
3.     Hybrid logo that combines words and pictures or design.Â
Entrants may focus their entries on one type, or submit multiple types.  Contest PrizesA $125 USD prize may be awarded for one, two, or three types of logos.  (See the section “Types of Logosâ€)  Depending on the number of types of logos selected, the total award may be $125, $250 or $375. One entrant may win more than one prize. More than one entrant may win a prize. The declared winners will be made clearly apparent to all contest entrants.  Â
PayPal is the preferred payment method. Other payment methods may be acceptable upon request. The contest winner can expect payment within 48 hours of being declared the contest winner. Â
Designers are given free rein to select colours they deem appropriate for the site and for their design. Despite this “open palette,†the appropriateness and effectiveness of colours that are deployed will be scrutinized with care. An early preference for a main website colour is a white background with blue elements (medium to light blue) because because blue is universally appealing. However, the colour scheme that is ultimately selected for use throughout the website will not be finalized until after a logo is selected. Winning entrants will be asked to list logo colour codes in order to match with other website elements in the future.
A potential tag line or slogan for the website is: “change the world, not climate.â€Â Although this tag line has not be finalized, entrants may incorporate the tag line into their entries.  Entries will be judged on the merits of the logo design(s) as tag lines can be added, deletedor modified later. Â
Design GuidelinesThe following design guidelines set out expectations prior to the receipt of any entries. Design considerations may dictate that only some, not all design guidelines should be followed. A design that is selected as the winner but which does not meet a particular design specification may be subject to a request for reasonable adjustments to align with the design guideline. Â
- Logos must be large enough for use across a web page.
- Logos must be delivered in a vector format  Word or Text Elements:
- Include the words “themostimportantnumber.orgâ€
- Each of the 4 words should be made distinct.
- “.org†must be part of the word logo.  Starting Concepts:
Here are some ‘starting concepts’ that may help designers to jump start a new design…
- The ultimate aim is to help people and nations make the necessary changes to transform an acceleration in CO2 increase into a peak and long term decline in CO2.Â
- The site aims to attract “attention†and “focus†of mainstream people from every country and city in the world
- The site aims to harness human energy and ingenuity (symbolized by light? other symbols?) to apply to the implementation of solutions and innovation of still better and more effective solutions.
- The logo may intimate a rebalancing of  human activities with nature. Whether the above "starting concepts"are helpful, it is important to consider what the site is about in the selection of appropriate design concepts and symbols. Â
When you visit the existing website at http://www.themostimportantnumber.org, you will find a “word†or "text" logo and some other graphic elements. The existing logo and graphics are considered poor and ineffective—both in terms of design concept and the usage of colour. This is why a world-class design is being sought via sitepoint.Â
At the web site, the "text"logo is combined with numbers (i.e. recent readings for atmospheric carbon dioxide, or “CO2â€). This contest is limited to logo design, and does not include the graphic presentation of current CO2 data. Entrants may incorporate CO2 data into their entries for illustrative purposes; however, winning entries must be delivered in a format that is separate from CO2 data.    Â
Feedback:Attempts will be made to provide feedback within 36 hours. Short delays may result from time needed for the aggregation of comments from several individuals. Â
Temporary Publication of EntriesThe contest holder may post some or all entries at the website, themostimportantnumber.org with an invitation for public comments on the contest entries. Entries will be permanently removed by the end of the contest. No entries, other than a declared winning entry, will be posted beyond the end of the contest. A link to the sitepoint contest location will be published along with any contest entries that are published. Entrants may request that their entries not be posted at themostimportantnumber.org unless declared the winning entry.  Â
This contest is 6 to 8 days long. The contest will no earlier than January 10 and no later than January 12, 2008.  If the contest is closed prior to January 12, 2008, at least 12 hours notice will be provided in the general comments.  Â
The holder of this contest believes that designers should get public credit for their creative works.  Credit for logo and graphic design work at themostimportantnumber.org may be provided on the website itself. Credit will be provided only in the legal name of the designer, and not to an alias. Links to a designer’s graphics design website may be provided from the future website, KudosVillage.net. Decisions respecting credit and website links are at the discretion of the contest holder, although designers may ask to receive no public credit for their work.  Â
Logo Ownership & Copyright
Prior to making payment, the designer will be expected to declare that they have the right to transfer full ownership and copyright of the design to the contest holder. If any elements of the design are not original artwork, including fonts, the designer will be expected to disclose any and all non-original artwork and their sources and declare that the designer has the right transfer full ownership and copyright of the design to the contest holder. Entrants that will not or cannot provide such a declaration should not submit any entries.  Â
