I need a logo for my product which I’ll incorporate into a banner for my website, business cards, email sig, headers for the forms, marketing materials, training materials, client deliverables, PPT slide frame, etc.
Larger businesses, including multi-national enterprises, usually hire a consultant to lead a team of employees representing all the functional areas to develop Disaster Recovery or Business Continuity Plans (DRP/BCP) for the business. The process can take months/years to complete and involves employee training and ongoing testing and maintenance. Some large businesses purchase DRP/BCP templates and assign in-house employees to develop their plans. In addition, these businesses must frequently comply with government regulations which mandate what needs to be in the plans.
Small businesses also need a DRP/BCP, but they don’t have the same options as the large companies. Consultants specialize in the larger businesses with the larger budgets and staffs. The available templates require expertise the solopreneur doesn’t have the interest or time to acquire. Small web-dependent businesses also don’t have the same “needs” or characteristics, so the available templates just don’t “fit.” I’ve attached a chart which lists the characteristics of the businesses in my target market and how they differ from larger “traditional” businesses.
My “product” is really a “system” consisting of the Micro-Biz Disaster Plan forms/templates and the process which produces customized deliverables for the business. This is not a Do-It-Yourself product; it requires someone knowledgeable in online processes and the forms/templates to work with the business owner. Eventually, I will be training and certifying Micro-Biz Disaster Planning Specialists, so the brand needs to be able to serve as an umbrella for the various parts of the business.
There are two audiences:
1. Micro-business owners (solopreneurs) who will be investing thousands of dollars to safeguard their businesses. Could be a variety of business niches. Probably 30-50 years old. Male and female.
2. Consultants or Virtual Assistants who want to become certified Micro-Biz Disaster Planning Specialists. They will work with business owners to develop customized deliverables using the Micro-Biz Disaster Plan product.
I want my business to be perceived as:
Professional, Knowledgeable, Quality-minded, Organized, Advanced, and Contemporary
AND Warm, Friendly, Reassuring, and Authentic
Ideally, the logo should include some sort of branded/meme element that can be plucked out and used in other venues - for thumbnail, avatar, biz card design, label etc.
I have a mascot already - a cartoon dragon named Mal who represents the various threats which put a business at risk. I was thinking about having him sleeping at the end of the tagline (see attached jpg), but perhaps he could be incorporated into the logo symbol somehow without the impression becoming too "cutesy."
