Our digital rights law database CYRILLA, which stands for the CYberrights Research Initiative and Localized Legal Almanacs, does not yet have a visual identity and, because you are a core partner and/or long-time supporter of this initiative, we’d like your help.
First a little backstory on the name: We thought it would be useful to have a one-word name for the project to make it easier to talk about in public fora and on social media. Also, we thought personifying the database would give it some character, irreverance, pizzazz. With a little research, we landed on the moniker of a 5th-century Greek legal scholar named Cyrillus, who was a professor at the law school at Berytus (the Roman name for Beirut). Then, just because, we feminized the name so that CYRILLA would become the authority on digital rights-related law! We are trying to visualize the intersection of all these fields as a way of making this often obscure information accessible to people who want to embrace their rights online. We also started the design process with our in-house designer but kept hitting roadblocks, then a friend suggested 99designs for a fresh take. The color palette we started with and a couple of early designs whose direction we liked but were never fully resolved are attached.
