We’re seeking a sophisticated and playful, partially abstract WORDMARK or PICTORIAL MARK.
The studio name can be either one or two words:
“nimblefilm” or “nimble film”.
A lower case treatment has been our intention, but if your design sensibilities take you elsewhere, go there!
You are also free to explore any colour palettes that your inspiration points you toward, although keep in mind the earth-centric focus of our studio… this may inform the colour choices. Also, consider that it may be fine to use colour sparingly for impact purposes.
In the provided reference image, the black and white examples (MIT, Mill Film, MUNI) are more stark and cold we're interested in, but they're still entirely readable and employ geometric structures nicely. They also are intriguingly obscure. We like that. And the fact that they're also immediately identifiable within their respective domains.
We love typography too, but its use should not overshadow the graphic elements. For example, the word “nimble” may be more graphic, while “film” may be rendered in type. Or, maybe it's best that no type is used. Try everything!
This needs to be emphasized: Raw unadorned type should NOT be the principal component of the finished work, unless it is accented with impactful pictographic (negative space, for example) content as well.
Clever concealment is encouraged, as well, as is - perhaps - the exploration of an ambigram (such as “turn” in our uploaded reference image).
A freehand, very rough calligraphic napkin sketch is shown in this reference as well, emphasizing a similarity in stroke contours across the graphic. Pattern and repetition are attractive to us. A calligraphic treatment is NOT what we're seeking.
We are a world-wide privately funded, cloud-based non-profit animation studio making computer animation for other non-profit organizations: environmental, human rights, animal welfare, educational, public health and other socially responsible and conscientious groups who historically have no money.
Our goals are twofold:
1) ENSURE THAT ALL ARTISTS GET PAID PROPERLY; and,
2) SUPPORT GOOD CAUSES THROUGH THEIR CREATIVE WORK.
We're looking forward to seeing all of your brilliance!
Thank you all.
NOTE: This contest was mounted earlier in January. However, it was cancelled when 99designs would not permit us to change our reference artwork. We are re-launching our contest today, AND we are contacting ALL designers who had previously submitted artwork in good faith. We will never try to screw anyone. We know how hard you work! Thank you.
