Design an iconic logo that creatively conveys Let Lyrics Speak’s mission in a single image and design an awesome font to match it.
Clean, Modern, Simple (but we are open to others)
The icon element that represents Let Lyrics Speak should be designed separately from the text element of the logo since it will often appear by itself — most importantly — in Apple’s App Store.
Combine two graphic elements (example: a music note and mouth) with a creative use of negative space. Almost all of the examples we’ve attached do this well.
*The Santa Cruz logo (AKA the “blue screaming hand”) is unlike any of the others, but it’s the very first thing that came to mind.
We know there are limited ways to represent music visually (headphones, music notes, musical instruments, speakers, etc.), but it would be wonderful to avoid cliches if possible. Considering how important it is that the icon portion of the logo be a literal interpretation of Let Lyrics Speak, we know how challenging that may be. The best/winning entry may end of using some cliched graphic elements, but would appreciate if designers explored alternatives to the obvious.
With that in mind, it's important to reference Human Interface Guidelines. I've copied the ones that are relevant below. The full list can be found here: https://developer.apple.com/design/…/app-icon/
Find a single element that captures the essence of your app and expresses that element in a simple, unique shape. Add details cautiously. If an icon’s content or shape is overly complex, the details can be hard to discern, especially at smaller sizes.
PROVIDE A SINGLE FOCUS POINT
Design an icon with a single, centered point that immediately captures attention and clearly identifies your app.
DESIGN A RECOGNIZABLE ICON
People shouldn’t have to analyze the icon to figure out what it represents. For example, the Mail app icon uses an envelope, which is universally associated with mail. Take time to design a beautiful and engaging abstract icon that artistically represents your app’s purpose.
We don't know if they'll inspire anything, but w wanted to share some statements our Founder made on the connection to music and mental health...
“If your mind’s too loud and your heart’s too weak, turn the music up and let lyrics speak.”
“Suffering in silence tends to make things worse. Don’t let your mind marinate in the poisonous thoughts you’re keeping to yourself. Get out of your head and get into the world.”
“Music unlocks the door that we’ve told our trauma to hide behind. Music uncorks the emotions we’ve taught ourselves to bottle up. Music allows us to express ourselves when we don’t have the words. Music a mental health tool that often works better than others. Use it. Please.”
