Design a logo for a new concept store, called NYO. The store will be located in a New York Airport, so it must appeal to travelers coming and going in the New York area. The store concept is focused on New York local, Made in Queens, gift items that customers are encouraged to discover, that have an authentic, makers feel. Visitors will be drawn to the hip, urban storefront, and then lured inside by the hand crafted offerings.
This locally sourced retail shop will be an exciting addition to the airport, and will be an opportunity for the local community to showcase itself within the airport, while also providing an opportunity to travelers from all over the United States and the world to see the best of what local artisans have to offer. The mission is to shine a light on local products that are manufactured in small quantities to keep their uniqueness. We aim to promote local designers and manufacturers, share their stories and provide an opportunity for these local businesses to grow.
The store’s décor will feature a modern twist on classic wooden furnishings. Wood planks for the shelving and display units will be used; rustic metals and raw finishes will be incorporated as accents. Simple and functional design principles will be the backbone of the store design. Concrete or mosaic tile flooring and a neutral color palette will complement the oak display units. The shades of white, grey and natural oak provide a perfect backdrop to showcase the merchandise. The store fixture layout is composed of rolling racks, wall displays, shelving units, apparel niches, spinner displays.
The logo should reflect the stores aesthetic but be able to stand on its own. The logo will be used as storefront signage, on shopping bags and on merchandise tags. Colors to consider include: black, brown, white, metal tones with a pop color but are not limited to these suggestions. Textures can also be incorporated. Multiple versions (i.e. vertical and horizontal) will be required of the winning design.
