The place is currently called "The Pear Tree" based in Kerikeri. The food will be bar snacks and pub food with some fine dining influence.
The Kerikeri Basin is the first place in New Zealand that Maori and English settlers lived together in the same village. This is also the first place that a mechanical "plough" was used.
The huia "feather" is a revered treasure for Māori and symbolises leadership and mana (respect). The feathers from the tail of the huia were particularly prized and were worn in the hair or around the neck by both men and women.
There is also an old Blacksmiths shed out the back of the pub as one of the missionaries (James Kemp) was a blacksmith.
Our brewery logo and other influential pics attached.
The oldest building in New Zealand (Kemp House) and the oldest stone building in New Zealand (Stone Store) are also next door.
