I started Backpacker's Brand to design and make high quality products that help people experience the magic of the outdoors without ruining it for the next group. Our brand mission is simple: 'Help people enjoy the outdoors with a low impact.'
One of the 7 'Leave No Trace' principles is to burry your waste while camping in the backcountry. Our first product, The Prairie Dog, is an ultralight camp shovel designed for backpackers. It is primarily used to dig small holes to poop in while camping in the backcountry but it can also be used for tasks like digging fire pits or as a spare tent steak. It is made from aerospace grade aluminum and weighs 0.7oz, about as much as Bic lighter. When tied to the end of sticks or hiking poles like a spear tip it out-digs any other camp trowel. The design is patent pending.

Have fun with it! This logo should catch people's attention and make them look twice as they walk by in the store.
I think the path of least resistance would be a literal play off of the name: An illustration of a cute looking Prairie Dog sticking its head out of a hole but I'm open to anything. (Another thought would be the Prairie Dog hiking and wearing a backpack, I think I just want the Prairie Dog to have some presence in the design.)
The name should be the focus of the logo with smaller sub copy 'Ultralight Camp Shovel' and some type of illustration with the prairie dog. Feel free to get creative if you think of something other than the Prairie Dog in the hole, that's just a first thought.
The font should feel natural in the outdoor space and have an organic, classic feel to it.
Backpackers are the the target audience for this product but the design should speak to all manner of outdoor enthusiasts.
The shovel is currently sold online. Our next production run (with this logo) is intended for outdoor retailers like Wander Outfitters or REI. Help make this the most famous poop shovel in the world!
