Dance for Health is a Not For Profit, innovated dance programme designed to help restore body/mind balance, and combat ill health, focusing mainly on people living with Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and the Elderly and to regain freedom through movement.
Andrew Greenwood who designed the movement content says he endeavours to bring these people living with movement restrictions to a state of absorption, where they reach a state of intense focus, concentration or simply said, being in the moment.
Dance is effective in regaining the connection to the body because it encourages natural sequences of movement. Visual, auditory and tactile cues are an integral part of dance as are visualisation, imagery and the breaking down of sequences of movement. Moving creates consciousness as the mind and body find each other. We believe that the arts, and dance in particular, can contribute to people's well-being.
Our mission is to share our knowledge and build a community of knowledgeable and experienced dance teachers who will be able to offer artistically enriching experiences to their dancers and promote well-being in the process. Dance for Health tries to bring the dance classes within reach of all people with chronic movement restrictions.
