We quite like the form of the http://www.zendesk.com site - its probably worth mentioning that we are taking our name from the http://37signals.com/ business who produce Basecamp. We plan on creating reporting that reflects the 37signals philosophy of good pricing and simple service sets, where less is more.
UPDATE 7TH MARCH:
After seeing the first few designs - a general comment. As we have referenced 37signals I can see one design that uses the dots/squares that have been joined up, signifying 'Business Intelligence'. This is OK, but it needs to be developed so it doesnt look like a 37signals copy. I quite like the way the 99designs logo is put together where the emblem looks more like a freehand drawn object - sheets of paper with an image on it... As we deliver reports, there may be some merit in exploring this, but its just one angle - I dont want to limit ideas at this stage yet.
UPDATE 8TH MARCH:
Please see my feedback comments - we probably need designers with freehand skills to create logo's that are less 'computer generated' type feel - something natural that can be interesting when it describes the slightly dry world of reporting....
UPDATE 10TH MARCH:
IMPORTANT: final update before the first stage of this competition closes - everything to play for and a recap on the brief...
I wanted to give an update as we enter last 11 hrs of 1st stage of competition. Right now i am struggling to be honest, if I read my comments below asking for certain things to not be used, it seems to get ignored and so I dont really have many designs yet that we like.
This is good news for any designers who read briefs and comments carefully as you can easily still win this by just taking onboard these comments and working to brief :)) So here is an updated exact summary of what we would like after seeing all these designs.
- Logo format should be "<emblem> 37reports" - #91 follows this format for example. At the same time it would be good if some communication of what we do is creatively added into the text "37reports" - #54 is an example here.
- The emblem should NOT have 37 inside it (we have lots of examples of this now)
- The emblem should have a freehand/illustrator feel, we dont want the box-standard computer generated shapes you see so often on logo's these days
- The emblem and any design in reporting *has* to represent what we do - BUT it must not contain clichéd images such as ticks, graphs, paper clips, or paper folders/stacks. We want to represent what we do a bit more creatively than the usual icons used
What we do "We gather intelligence from other systems and provide clients with analytics and reporting who use this to make better decisions about their businesses letting them get ahead of their competitors"
We want a simple logo that communicates this, there's no need to apply any production such as web2 reflections etc - if its a strong creative concept it will stand out on its own, and thats when we know we have the right design.
Hope this helps and good luck!
