We're looking for a logo that tells our story, much like the hidden arrow in the FedEx logo or the "A to Z" in the Amazon logo (we're not asking for arrows, but in these logos the arrows represent something - FedEx = movement, Amazon = everything from A to Z), we're looking for something more than just stylized Ns, we want something that illustrates our values. We'd like to see interpretations and illustrations of "balance." Ideas include a seesaw/teeter-totter, scales, a spectrum of some kind, or any other illustration of the concept of balance. We will be adding to and supplementing this guidance throughout the contest.
We would like to see something with a sense of humor, something playful, something that can balance the seriousness of our task (of providing balanced, unbiased, and reliable information) with a cleverness and playfulness that will attract potential readers. Please take a look at some of the logos that we find inspiring stylistically. They are diverse, but there are common themes among them.
We are looking for an image, whether a seesaw or a newspaper or some other illustration of what we do, communicating balance and truth.
Please visit newsandnews.com to get a sense of what we do.
An image-based logo separate from the text would be welcome.
Our slogan will be near the logo, but we will be creating variants in other languages so it shouldn't be fully integrated into the logo. "Professionally curated. All views. No agenda."
We expect to need 1) a banner logo for the masthead of the website and the newsletter - the main brand identity for the site and associated products (currently 1024x148 - aspect ratio), 2) a square (or circular) logo for app icon, web, flavicon, menu headers, social media, and other uses where there banner is insufficient, and 3) a redesign of our bias meter (604x230). The current bias meter and information about its purpose can be found in the center of the bottom bar of our mobile application.
Ampersand instead of "and" is not OK.
