We are an enterprise networking startup, currently four people strong, looking to revolutionize the way that enterprise networks are put together. Half of our crew is from the computer science department at Stanford where they've been working on the core technology for the last two years. They have a research breakthrough that we're now making in to a company.
The technology is network virtualization. We take enterprise switches (they look like this http://newsroom.cisco.com/images/Ca…s_500.jpg) and make them appear on a network as if they are entire virtual networks of routers, firewalls, load balancers and all kinds of other networking equipment.
Compared to the two big networking companies (at cisco.com and juniper.net), we picture ourselves as younger, less complex and more modern. We think of our products as being born in to a web 2.0 world while their products were born in the mainframe era.

Our target audience is network IT managers in very large (Global 2000) enterprises. They may read http://www.networkworld.com/. They are very familiar with products from Cisco, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, etc. They think of themselves as technology enthusiasts.
When they take their work hat off, they also have an iPhone. Everyone we meet with day-to-day talks about how well designed Apple or Google products are compared to the software and hardware they have to use in their day-to-day work.
