the workshop website (which is going to be re-designed) is available at: http://www.swat4ls.org/2011/.
The current logo (on the site) was not very appreciated and the overall website is going to have a professional makeup soon.
Workshops attendants are varied, they come from both academia and industry, they include students as well as scientific directors and the are scattered over the globe (but predominantly Europe, US, Japan).
The audience can be characterized as being scientific/technology oriented.
The key technology in the Semantic Web area is RDF, which represents a graph of subject-predicate-object sentences. As a consequence much icons in the area include graphs or triples. The official symbol for RDF is http://www.mkbergman.com/wp-content…df_200.png . Some people in the workshop area played with it and other 'biomedical' items, and have logos like: http://go2pub.genouest.org/images/logo_u936.png (which represent RDF + medicine + biology + computers). The idea is nice but the results is not so 'immediate'. Other groups in the area have taken a different approach and have logos which plays on biology/abstraction/logic, like the one in: http://www.who.int/classifications/…_icon1.jpg (again, with some hint to graphs).
