What is Tech Oasis
There is a large community of technicians (the people who fix your refrigerator, air conditioning, washer and dryer, etc), who, without the space of a formal office, often work out of their vans. This working community does complex paperwork on the fly while on the road, at the nearest restaurant, or at home. In addition, their “office space” is the back of their van itself. Spare parts, tools, filling systems, drinks, snacks, and any other office supplies are thrown together in the back of this van. It’s a mess. There is no centralized location where they can manage their professional life.
Our main service...
We serve as a major parts distribution center (think UPS store, but for appliance parts). Very often, these technicians will have the parts they need — motors, wiring kits, circuit boards, doors, etc— shipped to their homes from a variety of manufactures. We plan to develop a relationship with these manufactures and provide them with a centralized location to ship all the parts needed in the area. We then sort the parts and hold onto them until the technician needs
them. We’ll be similar to an Amazon pickup location. Amazon has an incentive to ship things to an Amazon pickup location, as they can bundle all shipments into one box and save on shipping. We can give this same advantage to the manufacturers. The manufacturers will save on shipping, and we’ll essentially act as a pickup location for local technicians. Everyone wins!
What makes us special....
We want to create something more than just a parts center or front office retail space. In addition to processing and housing their parts, we want to provide technicians with a place to relax, do paperwork, or just get out of their vans for a while. We’ll have office and desk space open for a technician’s administrative duties, as well as space for their “front office” colleagues. Our message to technicians is simple: this is your new workspace, and we want you to have everything you need. You are free to focus on work in peace and quiet, bring in a client or colleague for an important meeting, or just hang out with your professional colleagues. These workspace will be progressive and modern, with an emphasis on comfort and convenience. We’ll offer shared technology (such a teleconferencing equipment, printers, scanners, and various software), warehousing space, fast and free wifi, hardware tools, as well as a healthy and tasty variety of caffeinated beverages, snacks, alcohol, and more. It’s a place to relax, a place to get work done, and a place to just hang out with other technicians. This setting will be slightly less flashy than, say, an office in Silicon Valley. Fewer bells and whistles, but still open and modern.
The typical day for a technicians that uses Tech Oasis:
Pick up parts in the morning, do the job.
Swing by Tech Oasis after the job to finish some paperwork, maybe grab a coffee.
Get parts for next job, and move on.
Come back to Tech Oasis, and repeat.
This will streamline everything for the technician, as we become their centralized hub. A technician will now have access to a conveniently located workspace, which will hold all the parts they need to do their jobs ( as opposed to managing an office in a variety of spaces, and trying to keep parts stocked in a truck or in their garage).
We have two customer groups: the technicians themselves, and the manufacturer’s that we represent as their part pick up center. We need to appeal to both the business technician and the corporate nature of these manufactures.
