Our project is called techfortrade. Our ambition is to help small-scale entrepreneurs at poverty income levels in low-income countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America to trade with consumers and businesses in high-income countries, to help bring them out of poverty.
Our trading platform will be accessible not only by PC but also by mobile phones, penetration of which is rising very rapidly even in very poor countries. techfortrade will also incorporate a peer-to-peer loan system for short-term trade credit, to facilitate these trades.
The four key strands of the offer are:
• A trade website, accessible also by SMS, that lets low-income entrepreneurs sell and buy goods and services to/from one another, and sell to anyone in the world (both to end consumers, and other businesses).
• Trade credit on a tiny scale (up to $10), for very short periods only (one month maximum), funded on a peer-to-peer basis
• A small-scale payment system, which purchasers can pay into from any country, and which sellers can get cash out from even if they are unbanked in low-income rural areas
• Information-sharing communities
We need a logo which works across a wide variety of materials ranging from regular paper collateral to a website to a mobile phone interface. We are talking about a logo design which needs to have the potential to work internationally and in very small sizes (mobile phones).
In addition it needs to work online so there are issues in respect of a web safe palette particularly given the issues in respect of low bandwidth (Africa!) so we need to work in a web safe palette.
Also, because of limited marketing budgets we should consider making the url suffix (.org) part of the logo design.
