Your brief is to create an ORIGINAL, POSITIVE and DISTINCTIVE visual identity for our business.
Before you submit ANY designs, please make sure you understand our requirements!! It will save us all a lot time and effort :-)
We need you to read the details below very carefully to understand our needs. You should also read the 'Contest Discussion' where we are giving ongoing feedback on the entries:
==== CONCEPTS & VALUES ====
These concepts reflect positive values and themes in our business and products - they can be interpreted symbolically in your designs:
- Global (the earth, worldwide, maps, continents, etc)
- Interconnected (interlinked, the web, transport networks, trade networks)
- Honesty & Authenticity (Genuine, Trust)
- Roots (origins, history, tree roots, secure foundations, etc)
- Growth (expansion, diversifying, branching, upwards)
- Harmony (in balance, equality, yin/yang, symmetry)
- Natural (organic, from nature, natural shapes and colours, plant based...)
- Innovative (inspiration, ideas, creation)
==== SIZE AND SHAPE ====
We are open to all ideas – but we think that designs that are landscape in orientation will be more appropriate for our needs. We suggest designs that are 2x2 to 2x4 in proportion.
==== LOGOS FOR INSPIRATION ====
Please look at the attached file with other companies' logos that (some) people in our office liked. Do not copy these, they are just to suggest the kind of logos we think *may* suit us. They are for INSPIRATION only. We hope you will actually have better ideas!! :-)
==== DESIGN DOs ====
For WORD marks:
Submitting our name in a fancy font is not a ‘design’! So, please DO take a font as a starting point, but then manipulate the characters to create something UNIQUE AND DISTINCTIVE. You should take inspiration from the ‘CONCEPTS & VALUES’ that we listed above. We also expect you to make use of some kind of embellishments to make the word more striking and memorable. (Designs that are no more than type our name in a fancy font will be immediately eliminated.)
For PICTORAL and ABSTRACT marks:
A meaningless abstract motif simply placed with the word VEGECO will not make a winning logo... Please DO ensure that any motif you design is distinctive, original and relates to the ‘CONCEPTS & VALUES’ detailed above. Motifs should also visually relate/connect to the word VEGECO in some way, for example:
- Line thickness/style of the motif and the line thickness of the lettering.
- Colours in the motif and colours in the letters (or just parts of the letters)
If there is no relationship between the motif and the lettering – it is very unlikely we will select your design.
For EMBLEM marks:
Please DO bear in mind our preferences over size and shape. Designs that are circular or square are fine – ovals or rectangular designs should be from 2x3 to 2x4 in proportion. Please DO consider carefully the ‘CONCEPTS & VALUES’ that we detail above and look for visual presentations of those ideas that can be incorporated into the design.
Please DO remember that the logo will sometimes need to be represented in only ONE colour (e.g. B&W), so for each submission we would like to see both the colour and monochrome version.
Please DO experiment with letter shapes, and explore how the characters in the word VEGECO could be modified to represent some of the related ‘CONCEPTS & VALUES’ of the company.
Please DO experiment with different colourways – you may stumble on a vivid new colour scheme that is stunning and unique.
Please DO remember, we are not an online 'start-up'. We are an established bricks and mortar business, we work in the 'real world', and have suppliers and buyers have to trust us with large sums of money. Our logo has to project a confident, serious and mature image – it cannot look like a phone app icon!
==== DESIGN DON’Ts ====
DO NOT submit ideas taken from istock, template monster, etc... We only work with talented and HONEST people! So, if we think you have not created an original idea *just for us* - we will eliminate your design and ban you from entering any further contests for Vegeco projects.
Please DO NOT break our company name down into ‘VEG’ and ‘ECO’ the company name should only ever be represented as one whole word, ‘VEGECO’.
Please DO NOT style the letter ‘V’ as a tick, or represent it as a plant.
Please DO NOT style the letter 'O' as a globe, attach leaves to it, or any other object. This is not original!! It also causes viewers to misread our company name as 'VEGEC' with a round icon next to it! Damaging the company name you are designing for is not good design :-)
In the world of vegetarian/vegan foods and products, styling the ‘V’ as a symbolic plant form as a sign for ‘vegetarian’ is an ideas that has been used for decades. It is an extremely common and overused cliché. Such imagery can never project a unique and distinctive identity for our company - especially in relation to vegetarian products.
Please DO NOT attempt to represent the concept of ‘vegetarian’ as vegetables and do not make any representations of food. Vegetarian does not simply mean ‘vegetable eater’... Designs that rely too heavily on plant forms will give the impression that we are in some way involved with the buying and selling of plants, vegetables... we are not. If your design suggests in any way that we are a greengrocer or a grower of plants – it will be eliminated immediately :-)
Please DO NOT use ‘recycling’ symbols, such as circular arrows. We understand this may be ‘eco-friendly’ sign, but we are not a recycling company and we do not trade in any recycled products. Such symbols will confuse and mislead our target audience. Designs that use such symbolism will be eliminated immediately.

We require the winning design submitted to be made available in vector file format, preferably as Adobe Illustrator files.
