The Fair Share campaign is part of the Washington Poison and Drug Center’s (WPADC) funding strategy. The Washington Poison and Drug Center provides free 24/7 emergency consultation to the public when they take the wrong medications, too much medications, have accidents with chemicals and pesticides, overdose on drugs (both prescription and illicit), come into contact with harmful plants, or get bitten or stung. Doctors, pharmacists, and nurses answer the calls and are backed up by board certified toxicologists. While many people only think of children when they think of poison control centers, we serve all people of all ages over the telephone through our 1-800-222-1222 number. Children only make up half of our clients; adults make up the other half and generally have much more serious poisonings because they take prescription medications. Many people know about our service to the public but are less familiar with our service to hospitals, emergency rooms, and physicians. We provide consultations to hospitals to help save the lives of poisoned patients. Generally, these cases are much more involved and require much more of our time and services. These cases take days, not minutes, to solve. Sometimes hospitals rely upon us to help them be confident that they have done everything possible to save their patient when faced with end of life decisions. The Washington Poison and Drug Center is a 501 C 3 non-profit. As a non-profit, our budget is already tight. Hospital cases are taking up much of our resources and we need to spread the cost of these services more evenly. To this end we are starting the Fair Share campaign asking for hospitals in Washington State to provide a yearly Community Benefit Investment, paying a fair share of the costs of cases. We have divided hospitals into small, medium, large, and extra-large and will be billed for a Community Benefit donation according to their size once a year. As you probably know by now, our target audience is hospital administrators. We are looking for a logo that brings to mind cooperation, fairness, patient safety, partnership between WAPC and hospitals, instant availability 24/7/365, and that it is a small investment with a LARGE benefit. Keep in mind that what we ask is very small and affordable. The cost of hiring experienced personnel to provide these same services would be prohibitive for even the largest hospitals. We save them quite a bit of money, increase patient safety, and reduce liability. Please Don't Use: Just to re-iterate: green crosses don't mean "Hospital" in the state I live in (Washington State, USA). They mean marijuana, which is legal in our state. We help people who take too much marijuana, but we don't want to be associated with it in a business environment. Also, please don't use hearts. If you have already used a heart and have a message from me asking you to leave it up, please leave it up. However, if you are just starting out, please don't use a heart.
