The long and short of it is that I'm trying to have some fun with the brand by combining the "seriousness" of 1930's and 1940's era artwork with the modern nature of podcasts. The humor is in the approach - the more ostentatious or stylized, the better.
My thought was to go for a classic broadcast radio/TV feel. Something that NBC or CBS would've used in the '40s. The idea is that storytelling isn't new, it's just that podcasts are. So, I'm trying to bring it all together.
Also, the "Monster" in Podcast Monster isn't meant to be intense or scary. Simple, clean fonts OR, if anything, something very ornate (to match the art deco feel).
I'd like to avoid headphones and smartphones in the logo itself. While I want you to feel free to explore lots of ideas, perhaps stylized waveforms could be an inspiration for the lines and forced perspective of art deco. (Note: Keep in mind that waveforms are different than the lines in the Wifi icon. Go do a quick Google search.) But, honestly, I'm just throwing ideas out there.
Also, please avoid microphones - those seem to be the default icon for all of this kinds of businesses. Let's think outside the box! Do whatever you're most excited about and that should come across.
Lastly, because I lack the vocabulary necessary to explain the look I'm going for, here's a basic Google search of 1930s logos for inspiration: https://goo.gl/2IM6H8
