My name is Tom and I live in California, home of 85% of the worlds almonds and some of the best outdoor activities known to man! I grew up snowboarding, wakeboarding, surfing and enjoying an active lifestyle. The company I have started is a representation of that lifestyle and my love for healthy almonds. I am currently in the almond business and this would be a new brand, a concept that I developed over the last year or so... I have distribution and a web site pending our trial run in January. The logo is very important because it we be the first thing consumers see as a differentiator of our product, an aspect that our marketing is heavily dependent upon.

My target audience is primarily of someone who would either buy a Gatorade or a Monster, from young kids to retired weekend-warriors. Our product and image is meant to appeal to not a specific age group, but to a genre of folk who believe they live an extreme lifestyle, or would like to associate with one. Whatever this means to them is self-determined. The health appeal of the almonds will be able to attract moms to purchase them in bulk for their children, as well as get the attention of teens as a point of purchase because it will be a trendy item.
I need this thing to catch eyes!!! I want people to walk into everything from a skate shop to Safeway and see the X-Nuts logo from a mile away. Be inspired by Monster if you would like, because I would like it to be as easily recognizable as the Monster "M".
If you want to include the words "California Almonds" under the "X-Nuts" that would be something I may like...
Being that I am initially starting the company in California I believe an outline of the State of California* mixed in with the "X" that could work...
**But please note that once I expand outside of California the State outline could be dropped for marketing purposes, along with the phrase "California Almonds" So make sure the "X" or "X-Nuts" is the focal piece of the logo.
