We want a simple, sophisticated, timeless (but with a hint of fun - not stodgy and boring), easily recognizable logo (even when you can't read the words or the words are removed), looks good when appears SMALL (or large) on a poster, screen (mobile, computer, tv) or in print, background should be White. The logo should be attractive to women & men, young & old. It will be direct to consumer brand and business to business.
Ideally, the design would somehow reference independent/unique beehives or abstract areas of activity that all related or connected in some manner or exist within one space (an Apiary). A collective of creatives is stronger than each individual..
Some of the designs we have seen look too finished, too serious/geometrical or too much like a pharmaceutical or military company. We want to express creativity, artistry, nature and infuse the design with humanity. Perhaps even give a sense of being unfinished or a "work in progress." References (if any) to a collection of beehives, honeybees, honeycomb, etc can all be abstract or done with a soft touch.
It would be great to see the following iterations:
1. A pencil or charcoal sketch or something more free-hand/flowing.
2. A design where the logo element is a part of the word APIARY
A natural, organic (less geometric) design is more appealing to the creative nature of our company. Any referencing of a bee-hive(s) should be recognizable but subtle and perhaps a bit abstract (as opposed to too literal). Honeycomb shapes can be a part of the design but shouldn't be the main/only focus of the design and should be done in a manner that is still organic (just like a honeycomb exists naturally within a beehive).
We are also curious if the use of the "A" in the design can look good. We definitely do NOT require that whatsoever, but may be interesting. This logo will eventually be animated, so please think of those possibilities.
