ChrisLamont necesitaba un nuevo diseño de app y lanzó un concurso de diseño en 99designs.
Un ganador ha sido elegido entre 37 diseños de 14 diseñadores freelance.
Note to designers: I made this project private to protect your creative inspirations. I'm the only one who can see the designs.
Note #2: If you think there is a better approach way of explaining this to the end user though organization, visuals, etc, please message me and make a suggestion. I'm not fixed on this layout. Sample images are at the bottom of this brief. (scroll all the way down)
Note 3:
You can skip reading everything if you come up with a concept that works in this scenario:
Suppose I gave you:
- a digital drivers license,
- Digital car registration,
- College transcript
- Student ID
That you need to use that digital ID to get into a bar, or on a website, bookstore, or sign a document.
You will need to "beam" "bump" or "scan" two cell phones together to send that digital ID to the bouncer or librarian. The user should know that there is some privacy tools are at work here.
Suppose it's raining, and it's dangerous to be out on the road. An officer pulls you over. You can beam him your license and registration to prevent any "misunderstanding" that might occur.
Then there are websites that need to know who you are. Maybe you're getting a Groupon with a limit of "one per household" or "one per customer". Maybe to get access to exclusive video content, or movie preview.. Maybe a college will need to make sure you're eligible for the discounted local/resident rate with proof of ID.
All of this is possible... but now with more privacy.
Note #4:
A really cool feature of this app is that I have the ability to mix and match IDs and still be Valid. Example being a passport photo, utility bill address, and a drivers ID combined to make a brand new ID Card.

The rest of this page consists of thoughts and interactions I've addressed from an engineering mindset. If you've ever spoken to a nerd-engineer, you'll know their ideas may not be welcome to an end user. That being said:

Ever sign into a website or app with "login with Facebook"... that wasn't Facebook and it asked you to give your Facebook credentials? When you do this, not only does Facebook know what websites you're using, but it also sends the website personal information about yourself.
Valid Identity Protection Kit (or VIP Kit) is a feature-rich alternative to the Facebook login.
VIP Kit is focused on protecting your identity, **letting you express the identity you want to express**, and keeping everything else private. Simply logging in to a website won't give out your email address like Facebook currently does.
Also, nothing is ever saved on our servers. You choose who gets to know what details about you.
VAL-ID is focused on making anonymous online experiences more authentic. In other words, a VAL-ID security token will allow you to prove that you are a wealthy investor, a doctor, student, or any other aspect about yourself without revealing exactly who you are.
Facebook and Twitter both have blue checkmarks for verified accounts. This is a "blue checkmark" for any and all information about yourself. You're in control
Conversations you have with people are totally anonymous. Neither VAL-ID nor our partners will never be able to trace a conversation. This is a double blind conversation that is grounded in modern day cryptography.. Anything you do with a VIP Kit token is your business and one-one else's.
VIP Kit is a trusted tool to share the least amount of information about yourself with someone else. There is nothing else like this. It's radical new cryptography that allows for boundless possibilities:
Example: If you show a bartender your license, he knows so much information about you (home address, etc). All he really needs is your photo and a "yes/no" answer to are you older than 21. Everything else you share puts you at risk to identity theft.
Besides sharing driver license data, VALID allows you to organize and collect many types of documents and share them with another person (in real life or on the internet).
At the end of the day, an end user obtains an digital "identity document" from a "provider". Examples of each are:
* Drivers License from the DMV
* Medical card from Employer
* Diploma from High School
* Badge from the Boy Scouts
* Insurance Card from Geico
(etc).
VIP Kit is the container for these documents. Our partners would be colleges and universities, the DMV, and other official sources of information.
The end user would use an anonomized aspect of information downloaded from a business above to gain access to exclusive benefits such as
- Alumni only site access only for graduates
- Adult content is only accessible to people 21 and older
- Digital voting
- Forums
getvalid.com
IMPORTANT: VIP Kit is simply a container for other companies to put stuff in. Like Apple Passport, but for other documents.
It gives you access to events, locations, websites, and more.
Should have a feeling of TRUST and EXCLUSIVITY
It's easy to use.
People should be able to use the app while:
- tired
- busy
- sober (or not sober)
- multitasking.
If necessary, include a design provision for iOS one handed use:

I'm imagining tab bars, each used to represent the screens below
- A home screen with suggested apps and locations.
- A list of apps
- A location search
- List of documents and ID Cards
Style idea #1:
Personal documents. A person generally won't have a lot of personal documents, so whitespace is OK in the document repository/armory/vault

Style idea #2:
If there are no documents or ID cards, they can add one like this (obvious the use case and text would be different)

Style idea #3:
- List of apps directory should be able to accommodate different visual styles from different vendors

VIP Kit (Name subject to change)
Major use case:
VIP Kit is logically similar to the Facebook login. The major difference to tell the user is that no personal information is ever stored on our servers. Instead of owning your information like Facebook does, instead, we find cool ways to digitize information about you, and put it in your exclusive control. Users need to feel this safety that they are in control of everything. VIP Kit just empowers the end user.
Secondary use case:
App directed. A user can navigate to any of the 5 primary screens below accomplish their goal
#1 - The home screen. This is your personal firewall that helps your protect and secure your private identity.
There should also be small indicator that reports on the overall security of the ***phone***, and alerts them if action needs to be taken.
There should also be small indicator that reports on the overall security of your ***identity**** and alerts them if action needs to be taken.
Besides the two small indicators mentioned above, that indicate privacy, there is a message view. Any VIP-kit enabled application can publish information here.
>> UPDATE: Include a sample iOS notification-style icon here
>> UPDATE: Include a recently used list, or suggested cards
>> Option: I would prefer to allow a "skinnable" app, so that this feels like a wallet... where the user can change the texture and feel.
The size and content of this message should fit well on a small 6SE and a large iPhone 6S+
#2 - List of identity documents
A screen listing the documents that are stored. These documents can be stored locally on the phone, in the cloud, or in a private cloud in their home server.
There needs to be placeholder text if there is no documents stored. ("no cards found; to get a DigitalID card, click here")
Since there are an infinite type of documents, we need to think about how to handle these generic use cases:
- "photo ID - Government"
- "photo ID - School"
- "photo ID - Work"
- "NON photo ID - Government"
- "NON photo ID - School"
- "NON photo ID - Work"
- Certification
- Diploma
- Background check
- Voter registration
- Medical / proof of insurance
- Drivers insurance
- more...
Let's discuss the best way to handle the many document types. (Feel free to ask/propose ideas)
#3 - Identity document detail
A user will click on a document and get details about it. Here you will see the document in a more specific style (school ID vs license, vs diploma, award, etc).
* The primary use of this screen is to review the document ID data contents and to "create security hologram" that allows someone to Scan a QR code or beam it to a nearby scanner.
* Need to make it clear that the document isn't valid unless scanned
* The secondary use of this screen is to view the audit history, or where the ID was previously used. This audit history can be a link to a separate screen.
* Some documents may need an additional password. There should have an indicator to allow for this.
#4 - Locations and places
A screen listing physical locations that accept VAL-ID.
- There is a filter for venue type, restaurants vs nightclubs vs libraries . Foursquare, Swarm, Google Circles, Facebook places all have filters for this.
- There should be an additional filter for places that you already have ID cards for. (e.g. Suppose you go to Columbia University, you don't want to see things that are exclusive for New York University students. A filter should allow for easy filtering)
#5- VIP-Kit integrated apps
A screen listing VIP Kit-enabled apps
- These privacy preserving apps are on the app store or are already installed.
- Websites can also accept VIP Kit digital identity cards.
- There is a way to filter apps and websites by recent, and installed status. Lacking any filter, there is a suggested set of locations.
VIP Kit is only a container, I don't want people to think that VALID has anything to do with knowing or controlling the data contained in the VIP Kit. Our job is to simply be a trusted vault, and give people the technology to protect themselves.
The list of apps that are compatible with VIPKit **should not** look like the Apple iOS app store. Instead, make the icons have a "shortcut" icon that lets the user know they will be redirected outside the app
Microsoft does this today with the Web based app store and tiles. I'm not suggesting this approach per se, but choose what is best for your design.
