Thank you for taking an interest in our project!
This is a collection of silly and impactful poems for children, very reminiscent of Shel Silverstein's collections of poetry, such as Where the Sidewalk Ends.
It is titled, If Someone Calls You a Bird Brain and other whimsical poems
We have the illustrations completed and a great start for the cover (we will take the winning designer and start a private project with him/her to finish the full design of the book and of course pay more than this initial project)
We need help arranging the pages in a way that looks much more professional and that flows much better. The book is roughly the same size as Shel Silverstein's collections - a little over a hundred poems and approx. 180-190 pages. We want to give you, the creative designer, free reign to change the order of the poems, add imagery or small bits of illustrations that might improve a spread, change fonts and sizes, move illustrations around, etc.
So, for the project, we will post almost the entire project and you can take a few of the spreads, design them to the best of your ability as an example of what you are willing to do for the entire book, and post them in the competition. We will choose a winner based off of the handful of spreads and then start the private project to further fund your designing. We will also post our mock-up draft of what we want for the dust jacket/cover. Helping us improve the cover will defnitely up your chances of winning this project. You will, if you choose, receive credit in the book for your design work.
We took on this project to publish because we believe it will be successful. It has appeal. We think Silverstein saw such great success with his poetry collections due, in part, to the simplicity of them. The author/illustrator aimed to keep the book clean and very simple, so please keep that in mind!
Again, thank you for looking at our work!
