I'm a writer living in England. Marianne! is my second novel, and is due out late March in paperback, e-book, and audiobook. I have a third coming out later this year, and if this goes well I'll be looking to 99designs for that one as well. Entrants to this contest can be assured of feedback every day, and thank you for taking part.
The demographic for audible.com is mainly professional women aged 25-50. The image will appear with hundreds of competing novels, so this one needs to be intriguing enough to prompt a mouse-click to find out more. The book has a romantic element, but most of the power should come from the image itself, and I don't want the font to be too flowery and curly in the way of a conventional romance novel. If you like, take a look at audible.com to see how the image will be used.
The brief is for a jpg, 600 x 600 pixels at 72 dpi, which will be the icon / graphic for an audiobook at audible.com (audible com is the branch of amazon that sells audiobooks).
You will be working with a beautiful photo (to which I have the rights) of a girl running up a path. For some strange reason audible.com icons are square, so the challenge is for you to use the space in an attractive way. The title ('Marianne!') must be clearly visible, as must the author name (Simon Lowrie). Watchwords would be 'colorful' 'radiant' 'hint of magic' etc. Check out the attached paperback cover for my interpretation of those words, but then feel free to do your own thing. I do like the 'white halo' effect on her dress though, so please include this. Essentially, if it catches the eye and makes people go Wow! you have succeeded. The full title is 'Marianne! ~ a Journey Round a Golden Sun' and although I don't want the 'Golden Sun' part appearing as text, if the image is lit up with sunbursts etc., that could be good.
