I’m looking for some quick help on a few specific problems on a website I’m building. I’ve downloaded an HTML and CSS template and made some modifications to it but I’m stuck on a few issues. I know it’s not the best looking site in the world but is built to rank well in the search engines, something I have proven by using the same template on another site. I would imagine that these changes could be made within a couple of hours tops by a CSS or HTML pro.
All changes made must work properly in IE6 and 7 as well as Firefox.
The prize will go to the person that comes up with the best all round solution.
The website is http://www.internetsecurityuk.co.uk. Most of the links don’t work yet but I have some content on the home page and most of the category pages.
The parts I need help for are as follows:
1) At present the header is a background image. I would like to remove the two logos (the triangle on the left and the group of 3 triangles on the right) from the background image and place them, using CSS on top of the background image. I had already managed to get this to work in Firefox but for some reason it pushed the content in the main body down and am not sure how to remedy this. I would like to be able to make the images hyperlink to the home page too, which should just be a case of adding an href once the images are placed.
2) I would like to speed up the download of the header of the site, which includes the background header image and the navigation menu border. At present it seems to be the last thing on the page that downloads, which means that no header appears for a while on a slower connection. It may just be a matter of specifying the size of the image but since I’m a beginner I’ve not been able to work out how to do this for a background image.
3) On my product page I have another Internet Explorer issue. For some reason the text drops down below the image in the centre section of the page. Please see the following page as an example, http://www.internetsecurityuk.co.uk…urity.html
You’ll notice that the text shows up below the Norton Internet Security image in IE, I would like it to show up next to the image. View the page in Firefox to see what it should look like.
4) This is a bonus query and not necessary to get the prize but maybe for a pro it will be something quick. I would like a very light striped effect on the background header image, similar to the footer image but a lot lighter, just to give some texture. Any other ideas for the site are welcome, menu colours, header colours etc.
The contest will run until I receive a good all round solution for issues 1-3. If the submitted solutions are similar and have the same effect then I will award the prize to the best solution to query 4.
