This will be a map, a visual aid at the beginning of a novel.
¿Cuál es tu visión?
Hello Everyone! I am looking for two (2) maps. I have written a globe-trotting thriller which takes place alternately in Southeast Asia, and then the Middle East. At the beginning of the novel, prior to the first chapter I would like a rustic, black and white map that gives the reader a nice geographic visual of where the story takes place. Halfway through the book, the second map will be inserted for ‘Part 2’ of the story. I have attached pictures for the rough borders of the maps themselves, clearly labeled Asia 1 and Middle East 1. These should give a general idea of how ‘zoomed in’ I would like the maps, and their general perimeters. I have also attached a word document that includes all the cities, rivers, lakes, and general landmarks that need to be included as well. The good news is the story takes place in the present day, so if you’re confused about any landmarks that need to be on the map, Google is your best friend. You DO NOT have to include all the little cities you see in the example maps, in fact it’s likely better if you don’t, to avoid too much clutter, but you DO have to include all locations mentioned in the word document. The maps themselves – I would like them to have an old and rustic sort of look, not quite treasure map/dog-eared corners old, but something around the Second World War time period. I have attached perhaps the best example, Map Example 1, where a favourite author of mine opens a book that takes place during this time period, and I absolutely love it. I don’t need a complete carbon copy of this map, but it should provide the bulk of your inspiration: the mountain ranges highlighted as they are, capital cities distinguished from smaller cities, rivers, borders, a compass. ** Subtlety is key here, I want it old and understated, much like the example I have attached - nothing too flashy ** I have also attached a couple of physical maps which provide a good indication of where to place a few sketched mountain ranges, as you can see in 'Map Example 1'
DO’s: - Do your own thing in terms of how you’d like to identify a river, a border, a capital city, any geographic features you’re going to include. This is where most of your creative license will likely be. Little pyramids perhaps, for Giza in Egypt, or a miniature drawing of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. - If you feel there’s other cities or notable places that should be added that I’ve missed, feel free (Keep in mind, the seemingly ‘random’ spots I’ve put in my list are mentioned in the novel, which is why they are to be added) - While there’s no colour, feel free to add shading, depth, 3-D designs so landmarks stand out. You all would know much than I would on these points… - I will need this to be high definition enough to splay open across two open pages in a book, likely hardcover as well, to avoid any blurring. I also require full copyright license to use the maps in my publication. DON’T’s: - No colour, only black and white - If adding drawings for landmarks and using your creative license, the novel itself is a serious one, and the maps should reflect that. The book is geared to adult audiences, and has heavy themes such as human trafficking, governmental corruption, etc., so no ‘goofy’ or ‘playful’ themes for the maps. Any questions, please fire away! I’ll do my best to answer promptly. Good luck and Thank You!!
