GitHub Page Design Challenge
We would like to create a custom-design for our GitHub page:
The primary goal is to get users to download and install our FreeBrowser Android app, which allows netizens in China to easily access blocked websites.
We are using GitHub as the platform for this content. Our current page is located at https://github.com/greatfire/wiki and the goal of this project is to improve that page.
The overall design is expected to match and build on our logo (see below).
The GitHub template is fixed. We can only decide the content inside the “README.md” box. We want the user to ignore the GitHub template and focus on our content so the design may need to be “eye catching”.
We have outlined three sections below and what elements we expect to be included in each one. The order of the elements inside each section has not been decided. The width of each section should be 728px (this is decided by the GitHub template).
The whole section is expected to be one image. The image links to section 3 further down, so this section can be considered a teaser for section 3. The section is expected to contain the following elements:
Title (“FreeBrowser” - included in the version of the logo above)
Slogan (“Fast Android browser to access blocked sites”)
One app screenshot (see https://play.google.com/store/apps/…reebrowser for samples)
QR code to download app (see https://github.com/greatfire/wiki for samples. We will only include one QR code in this new version).
The section is expected to contain thumbnails, titles and links to selected news stories, similar to https://startpage.greatfire.org, but formatted such that it fits with the overall design of this page. We currently list six articles but this quantity should be variable. The content can contain some HTML such as <a>, <img>, <table>, <ul> etc but the formatting is restricted to https://help.github.com/articles/gi…-markdown/.
The section is expected to be an extended version of section 1. Each element from section 1 is expected to be included but they can be smaller if needed. In addition there should be installation instructions (how to download and install an APK file on an Android phone) and one or more screenshots from the app (see https://play.google.com/store/apps/…reebrowser for samples).
Adding social sharing links - like Twitter, FB and especially Weibo and WeChat. Also a sign up for our Chinese and English language newsletters.
