We offer a variety of facilities and services, including Adult Community Education courses, special interest or “hobby” courses, Occasional Childcare, exercise classes and a drop-in space for a quiet cuppa or to meet friends before or after a class. We are also involved in broader projects that improve our town and quality of life for all residents. In particular, we are establishing a new monthly market for the town. We are very focussed on signing up high quality stall holders to attract visitors from far and wide to visit the historic town of Maldon. We are a small, rural Victorian town (population about 1,500) but we are also a tourist town, listed by the National Trust. The market will feature both food (fresh produce and gourmet take home meals and products) plus hand made arts and crafts of the highest standard. The market is intended to provide a social activity for local residents with entertainment each month ranging from live music and kids puppet shows to gardening and cooking demonstrations.

We require a 2 page (A4), full colour promotional flyer to send to prospective stall holders (makers, bakers, sewers growers) for the new Maldon Market. The flyer will be emailed to a list of around 400 stall holders that we have hand selected. We will also do a limited print run (on recylced stock) to provide to additional stall holders as they come to our attention when we are 'out and about' and face to face. Our market theme is "Hand made, Home grown" and this ethos needs to be clearly reflected in design of the flyer. We have an existing logo that includes the Hand made, Home grown, slogan that needs to be incorporated into the flyer. (Attached below, with flyer copy). The flyer has dual purpose: 1) It is an invitation to hand selected stall holders to apply to become a stall holder at our market. It should convince the potential stall holder that this will be a fun market to be a part of. 2) It is a general promotional peice that provides some general market information so that those not interested in actually becoming a stall holder are inspired to attend as a market visitor. We will be sending a Word document along with this promotional flyer that allows the potential stall holder to actually fill out an application form to become a part of the market. The promotional flyer should provide the inspiration to fill out the accompanying Word document (application form). This is the first promotional piece being deisgned for the market. A promotal A3 poster and promotional post card will follow in the coming weeks so the design needs to be able to be carried across to these peices to create a consistent look and feel for the market. We will also be getting print and online advertisements designed, so again, this promotional flyer will set the scene for other promotional peices.
Design considerations: 1) Ultimately, the decision for a family to attend a weekend market is made by the female head of the home. Design should have a slight bent towards the feminine, without being too gender bias. 2) To emphasise the fun side of the market, graphics like bunting in colours to compliement or match the logo could be incorporated. 3) We prefer a 'niaive' style of design with, if anything, a slightly retro feel, not a corporate feel. Any future promotional items for the market will be printed on 100% recycled stock, possibly unbleached, so design should be more 'organic' and creative, than 'hard-edged'. 4) To emphasise the 'hand made' nature of products at the market, font for headings or borders that looks like stitching, or similar, should be considered. 5) Need to give equal attention to gourmet food (like jams, macaroons and cakes), fresh produce (apples and pears have universal aesthetic appeal) and hand made products. No obvious clip art please! Note: Images of these actual products need not necessarily be used. They are listed to provide a visual image of the market and inspriraton for colour and texture. Perhaps the logo alone is sufficient in terms of visuals and the skill is in simply arranging the provided copy in an attractive way to compliement the existing logo.
