We're looking for cover artwork for a Serial killer/True Crime documentary feature. Spiritlevel is a documentary production company that specialises in arts and history feature docs. Previous projects include How the Beatles Changed The World (currently streaming on Netflix), the 6-part series Wartime Crime (UKTV/Discovery), Rise of the Superheroes (Sky Arts), Manson: Music From An Unsound Mind (Arte/Sky) and Banksy and the Rise of Outlaw Art (Sky/Peacock/Arte). The final three of these all had artwork designed through 99Designs. Check us out: http://www.spiritlevelcinema.co.uk

We need artwork for our new film "The Murder Network". It's a serial killer documentary investigating the murders of Dr Marcel Petiot. His crimes took place in Paris during the second world war, and although the Nazi occupation plays a role in this film, we DO NOT want to include any specific imagery relating to the war or the Nazis as this is a true crime documentary and NOT a war documentary. But Paris is the setting for the film, so we're trying to communicate four key things with the artwork - 1. Tone. This is a dark thriller, so we need this to have the right aesthetic that fits the serial killer/crime thriller genre. 2. Dr. Petiot himself. The public is largely unaware of Petiot, so instead of simply showing his face he needs to be presented more as the menacing figure at the heart of the story. 3. Paris (and in the images below a number feature the Eiffel Tower, which will help identify the city, but there are other options) 4. Murder We're looking for a bold, menacing image, black and white with tint/colour wash/overlay (but we're open to seeing any colourised options - just make it striking!) TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS These are the requirements of the distributor - Key Art (also known as cover or title art) representing stand alone or episodic programs. This is required in three aspect ratios for each standalone program and in each episode within a series. Each key art must be provided in two different versions to allow a graphics editor to choose the best option for the specific VOD platform: 1) 3:4, 1200 (wide) x1600 (high), 600 dpi, RGB color (8 Bits/Channel), Photoshop: 1 layered .psd file and 1 flat .png/jpg file, Title/Logo & GFX Layer must be on separate layers 2) 16:9, 1920 (wide) x 1080 (high), 600 dpi, RGB color (8 Bits/Channel), Photoshop: 1 layered .psd file and 1 flat .png/jpg file, Title/Logo & GFX Layer must be on separate layers 3) 4:3, 1600 (wide) x1200 (high), 600 dpi, RGB color (8 Bits/Channel), Photoshop: 1 layered .psd file and 1 flat .png/jpg file, Title/Logo & GFX Layer must be on separate layers SUGGESTIONS - We suggest producing the film poster itself as a vertical image (design 1) then creating the other designs from this.
REFERENCES I have included a couple of inspiration images. The "No Country For Old Men" poster is great for showing the menace of the main bad guy, his eyes prominent, but also the layers of action - the menacing face looking out at the audience, and the man running from this in the centre of the image. I've also included the "Pledge" poster, mainly because I like the colour palette and the use of an overlay image of the paper pieces/tiles to add an extra element of visual interest that draws together the whole. PHOTOS/IMAGES Included also are a set of images that we have licensed from Getty Images and Shutterstock as part of our license agreement for the documentary. We have access to more options if necessary. Included is an image of Petiot himself, which should be looking out toward the viewer (whether his face is obscured like the No Country poster or not is up to you). Also included are images of Paris (both colour and b&w) and images of dead bodies/human remains. These three elements (Petiot/Paris/bodies) should be incorporated into the design, as well as: The film title: The Murder Network (Which should be prominent) Tagline: "A Serial Killer in Nazi Paris" (in a smaller font and less prominent).
