I am a physician on the UCSF Medical School faculty and spent my sabbatical on the streets of San Francisco photographing homeless people with mental illness, and recording their stories. I compiled these into a self- published book, with an extended introduction and conclusion that focuses on the social stigma borne by these people. Each image has a first person narrative on the facing page. The narratives describe how they survive, how they deal with the cold, with hunger, how they cope with boredom and loneliness, what they do for pleasure.
¿Qué te inspira y qué diseño imaginas para tu empresa?
I would like your help in designing the front of the book cover using the photograph I have uploaded. This book is intended to be a "coffee table" book (with a portrait orientation approximately 8 1/2" x 11") that would appeal to a socially conscious general public.
The goal of the book is to convey the fact that homeless people with mental illness who at first glance look so different and strange are actually cut from the same cloth as we are and share many of the same hopes, fears, joys, disappointments, etc. They share with us a fundamental humanity.
I want the design of the book cover to arrest the prospective reader’s attention and inspire him/her to open the book. Although I have given the book the title of "Cut From the Same Cloth: People with Mental Disorders on the Street," I am not wedded to this title. If the designer suggests one that is more compelling, fine.
I'd like the cover to be full bleed in PDF format and usable for both offset printing and an electronic IPAD reader.
Socially conscious general public readership = target audience.
