This book appeals to a general audience, and it needs to "pop" off of the shelves of a retail or book store. It's not a business book, but it has great business lessons. There are many moments and stories in the book that anyone could relate to emotionally.
The book cover needs to reflect our organization’s commitment to play and playgrounds, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be a literal photo or visual of playground equipment. However, we do believe in unstructured play, which means that while we’re not against organized sports such as soccer, we wouldn’t use those images to represent our organization.
The children we serve are typically ages 5-12 and are very diverse so please keep that in mind when designing the book cover. We have lots of photos of playgrounds being built and of kids playing but we’ve chosen not to make those available because we feel that our images – not matter how many we choose –will limit your creativity. We’re much more interested in your concept than in the perfect photo.
You may have seen our previous contest for this book. As you’ll note, the title has changed, and the fact that the design now can and must revolve around the KaBOOM! logo changes the project enough that we feel it warrants a new contest.
