I'd like to see the subtitle and author's name and info much bigger--as big as the title. Take a look at Tim Wu's cover for his book, The Master Switch - it's bold and powerful, and the way his name is so big it conveys the idea that he is the thought leader in the field.
Also, with the books, is there some way to convey the idea that they're going away?
And could it be an iPad in the design instead of a laptop?
I like your concept of white space but I would be happier if the words were much more powerfully displayed. The idea is that the book is saying something no one else is saying -- that books are actually going to disappear. This is a stark and powerful claim, and the cover needs to convey a sense of alarm and even foreboding.
Also, the author's name and info (NY TImes best seller) must be in large type, to convey the idea that the author is the thought leader.
And I'd rather see an iPad than any other kind of computer device. It's not mandatory to have a computer or device in the cover design, but if you do use one, it ought to be an iPad 2, since that's the cutting edge device right now.
