Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is the biggest shopping day of the year, and it kicks off the Christmas shopping season.
Most retail stores are closed on Thanksgiving, which is Thursday, Nov 22 this year. Retailers have a Black Friday sale in which they offer huge discounts to get shoppers in their store. Its been said that over half of shoppers' holiday shopping is done on Black Friday. Many sales will last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Retailers put their advertisements in the Thanksgiving Day newspaper, which comes out on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. The newspaper is very thick and has lots of ads with huge sales and discounts.
Because stores will often open at 5am, there are huge crowds, and the very best deals come in limited quantities, shoppers like to plan their day and strategize before going out to shop.
Every year, in October and November, these Black Friday advertisements are leaked. This means that you'll find the advertisements on the internet at websites like mine weeks before they come out in the paper.
We post the advertisements and millions of people view our website in November to take a look and plan their Black Friday shopping.
This year's website is still being updated, but last year's site is http://www.2011blackfridayads.com
