Logo with word mark, showing the unique connection between the City of Los Angeles and its namesake, the historical Mary, the mother of God (Nuestra Senora La Reina de Los Angeles). The style should reflect the history of L.A. founded as a mission by the Spanish, yet the style should also translate to something hip and cool in today's world.
The idea is also to showcase the full original name of the city, in a way to remind people that "Los Angeles" is just a shortening. The full name is long ("El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora La Reina de Los Angeles") so the challenge will be to get all the words on there while emphasizing "La Reina" and somehow not creating an over-cluttered design.
The fonts can be varied, but don't make it too busy.
A stylized image of Mary, either alone or as though she's brooding over the city, should be incorporated into or near the words.
The image of Mary and the words "La Reina" or the letters "LR" will then be used in future designs for shirts or hats.
