The website will be implemented using Magento, so this should be kept in mind whilst designing.
What we are envisioning is a navigation system broken up into 3 main sections: Toolkit, albums, kits and community.
We are envisioning these will be shown with icons to represent them at the top of every page, eg a scrapbooking toolbox, a scrapbook album, and a scrapbooking kit (includes things like an album, paper and embellishments.
The toolkit section will have:
-Pens, Pencils & Markers
These could be in a form of a drop down or super drop down that shows smaller icons for each section as well. The other sections won't have any sub-categories. Community is a separate section of the website to encourage interaction that will in the future potentially include forums and the ability for users to upload and share their creations with others.
It would be great on the home page to break it up into sections showing popular products from the main categories.
We would like to use Magento's filtering options to allow customers to filter products based on:
It would be great if the colour filter could be based on a colour wheel or similar.
Other pages to be designed are the product page and product category pages.
The product page will have at least one image for each product that should be reasonably large, with zoom functionality, however some products will have more, so it needs to facilitate smaller thumbnails of multiple images that will zoom in as well using Magento's zoom functionality.
Product category pages is where the filtering functionality will come into the most effect. When a customer goes to a product category from the main menu, they will then be able to filter the category by colour, price, theme and brand, or all of these, so this functionality needs to be catered for. Ideally these should not be drop down menu's as we would like customers to be able to quickly see all of the options available for them to filter by. The thumbnails of the products that are shown in these sections and of sub-categories (eg tools will have different sub-categories under it) should be reasonable large, at least 200px on each side.
We would also like these filters to be available on the home page, so they don't necessarily have to go straight to a category but can begin browsing by filtering products out.
