the city including content around lifestyle, business, education and
A new website should utilize publishing and editorial workflow
whereby the content contributors are under the oversight of an editor,
who has ultimate publishing control.
Look and feel standards should be implemented and driven by a style
guide document, as well as and fixed styles within the CMS.

Lago Vista residents, now more than ever, go online for answers and
often times will do so with a mobile device. A mobile first presence
Photography should be used liberally throughout the website to
accurately represent the beauty of the area.
Navigation should reflect standards in similar websites.
The two primary audiences are current Lago Vista residents and
prospective residents. The redesigned site should address both
audiences by conveying the key points of the community and presenting
a feel for the community, while also supporting the needs of current
citizens. These are top level messages.
Prospective business is the third audience that needs to be addressed.
The site should reflect the community’s offerings and incentives to
new and relocating businesses. There should be an expanded section in
the site dedicated to content around this subject. With a content
block and perhaps a banner on the homepage dedicated to the subject.
The San Marcos tagline, “We Love Your Company” was mentioned as an
While golf tourism is a factor, it is supported by its own website.
The redesigned Lago Vista website may provide an introduction to Lago
Vista golf and send users to the golf website for more information and
reservations. A 2nd or 3rd level content block should be dedicated to
this subject on the homepage.
The primary competition is other small Texas lake communities, such as
Lakeway, Marble Falls, and Hudson Bend. The Lakeway website in
particular was mentioned as a site that the City Council members liked
and would like to emulate. (http://www.lakeway-tx.gov/) The City of
Southlake, also offers a neatly designed, comprehensive web presence
in a similar vein. (http://www.cityofsouthlake.com/)
None of the competitive examples are currently responsive, which
presents a great opportunity for Lago Vista to stand out as
technically progress and appeal to its expanding demographic.
Some of the key priorities of City of Lago Vista website users:
Read primary content stream which should contain updated local
stories, locals news, community updates and notices.
Search legal public notices.
Check a calendar that contains key event.
Check for important community notifications, which may be implemented
globally through a series of alert icons. These notification should be
pushed to social media outlets when available. Users should be able to
sign up for these notification via email newsletter.
Icons may include:
Burn ban, if burn ban is in effect. (yes/no)
Watering restrictions in action. (3-4 drought levels)
Lake levels. (3-4 lake levels)
Learn about the area when considering a move to the area.
Learn about the benefits of doing business in Lago Vista.
Look and Feel Approach
The City of Lago Vista logo is currently under review for a redesign.
A new interface designs should be implemented independent of the
current logo look. A color palette may be developed based on the Lago
Vista blue used in the existing logo or a slight variation. Accent
colors may include yellow/orange, green, other blues and variations.
The color palette should be flexible for future expansion.
The existing logo should not be used in the new interface design.
Scripted text may serve as a place holder in lieu of a new logo
A newly designed interface should be flexible and scalable enough to
be used for other city department sites in future iterations. Imagery
should not be incorporated in the interface design and should be
limited to content areas and headers.
Visual cues for the site should include: boating, the lake, the sun,
trees, hill country, and Lago Vista’s scenic sunsets.
Client’s comments included:
Look and feel should reflect the natural beauty out there, unspoiled
land, Wildlife preserve - Balcones Refuge, bird watching, deer, lake,
Represent local attractions including: Flat Creek winery, Wedding
venues, and airport.
Lago Vista is a nature-lovers city.
