The Best of Health is a new website for health-wise people (primarily those aged 50 years and older)
Our main contributor / presenter is Dr Chris Steele MBE who is a celebrity TV doctor.
Dr Chris has enjoyed 26 years in TV broadcasting. He has survived so long in TV because he has developed a loyal following who trust him.
For the user: we want to provide a trusted source of news, information, help and advice. We want to raise awareness of health issues and educate people but we also want to inspire action. We want to encourage people to take responsibility for their lifestyles and their health wherever possible by making better lifestyle choices and by investing in the best health products and services on the market to suit their needs.
For businesses: we want to provide a marketing platform with a celebrity presenter who is known and trusted by the public.
Working with Dr Chris our mission is to help people live healthier longer lives. Our call to action is “Let’s add life to your years, starting now!”
We have prepared a brochure to introduce our website to potential customers. We are attaching a copy of the brochure for you to read as it will give you more background information and guidance about our corporate identity.
We’re focused on the fastest growing part of our population, those aged over fifty, people for whom health is the most precious thing - people who want to invest in their health.
60.7 million people live in the UK
33% of those (20.2 million people) are over 50 years old.
People over 50 control 80% of private wealth in the UK.
The 50 plus age group is the fastest growing group of internet users.
The number of 50 plus people using the internet has increased by 80% since 2002.
One in four people in the UK who use the internet are aged over fifty.

We want a strong and focused design which appeals to our target audience, which combines traditional values with contemporary design.
As our name suggests we intend to feature ‘the best’ health products and services and we want to deliver our message with integrity.
Amongst his various awards and achievements Dr Chris has been awarded an MBE by the Queen so the design for the site should be classy enough to reflect his excellent reputation but should also reflect his personality which is warm, friendly and down to Earth.
We want a design that reflects our mission of helping people live healthier longer lives and which suits our call to action “Let’s add life to your years, starting now!”
We see the site as following a magazine or blog style format featuring Dr Chris as a known and trusted personality.
We want to encourage people to come to the site as a source of the latest health news (which we will syndicate) and to find out what Dr Chris has to say on the news, topical health issues and the various health products and services that are available on the market.
Our design needs to include a mixture of text, image and video footage.
We want a clean and contemporary visual style with a colour scheme to compliment our company logo (which can be seen on the existing website).
Information should be easy to read with key information boxes coloured to depict the type of information (the following examples can be seen on the existing website):-
Blue box background for general health information.
Green box background and tick for Good Health Practice - (To Do).
Red box background and cross for Bad Health Practice - (What Not To Do).
Yellow box backgrounds for Health Warning information.
Font style to be similar or same as logo i.e. helvetica group of font styles or similar.

First page - Home Page
The starting point will be to design the Home Page and this will set the tone for the rest of the site.
The Home Page should include a prominent picture of Dr Chris as well as The Best of Health logo (it is very much The Best of Health featuring Dr Chris rather than purely Dr Chris).
The Home Page should also feature our call to action “Let’s add life to your years, starting now!” and this should accompany the picture of Dr Chris.
Under the picture of Dr Chris and the call to action we envisage two main things:-
(1) News (either using RSS news feeds and/or news articles), and
(2) Blog entries.
How these appear on the page (and how many of them appear on the page) is down to the designer but from a business perspective our paying customers are our priority and we want to give them prominence. Our paying customers will be the businesses that pay to feature in / sponsor our blog entries and they fall into two broad categories: firstly, health products and secondly, health services (provided by people).
The most recent news article or blog post will appear at the top and will be pushed down the page as new entries are made until they are archived. In order to keep our paying customers on the Home Page for more than a brief appearance we would like to keep more than one blog post in view at a time. The designer can decide how many and how large they should be in order to balance the commercial need for prominence with the quality of design.
Perhaps a list can appear in a side bar to identify the most recent 10, or more. When the browser reaches the bottom of the ones in view they should be able to click for more.
The blog posts should appear in a way that shows sufficient information for the user to decide whether or not to click on the blog to read the full article which may contain a mixture of text, images and video footage.
There will need to be a search function and this should be in a reasonably prominent position high up the page.
There will need to be links to the following pages: About Us / Contact Us / Blog Archive / Video Archive / Charities.
There should be buttons to share / connect to: Facebook / Twitter / Pinterest / Google + / You Tube / RSS.
Second Page - Featured product (blog entry)
When the browser clicks on a blog entry that appears on the Home Page it should open the blog entry in full in a new page. The page will need to include a mixture of text, images and video footage. The content will relate to the subject of the article - the featured product which we have been paid to promote.

Third Page - Featured person (blog entry)
This is like the featured product page but for a featured person who has paid to advertise his or her services by appearing in the featured article. Please see further comments below in relation to the third example website (Dr Duncan Dymond).
