I'll cut right to the chase. My current blog design sucks. Really bad. http://www.caffeinedi.com
I'm a software developer, not a designer. Therefore, my blog looks like a 2-year old took a box of HTML crayons and scribbled all over a text editor.
I'm looking for a fresh, polished, clean, professional design for my WordPress-based blog.
My priorities are: readability, sans-serif fonts for the main content, and an overall design that I feel reflects my professionalism and personal brand.
I'm looking for two page layouts based on the same design:
Homepage: This should contain a listing of the most recent blog posts, with the first few paragraphs of text and a "Read More" link. It should also act as an overall introduction to the site. (See below for other major design elements such as header)
Blog Post: This layout will display an entire blog post and should be optimized for readability. Each post should have the appropriate "share" links for Facebook (Like), Twitter, StumbleUpon, Google+, etc. (placement of these is up to you) Bottom of article should contain a nicely-formatted comments section with a form to add a new comment. (See below for other major design elements such as header)
Design Elements I like:
(Definitely look at the sites I list below for inspiration - it should give you an idea of what I like)
-Two column layout (main content area and sidebar)
-Clean header w/ tabs or navigation
-Short bio/picture that introduces who I am at top of sidebar (or somewhere else that fits your design)
-"Recent Tweets" area of sidebar
-Tag cloud in sidebar
-Properly placed Search box w/ magnifying glass search button
What I hate about my current blog:
-Color scheme. Ew.
-Header. Too much going on, and the site title text makes my eyes want to bleed.
-Footer looks like an afterthought.
-No use of icons.
-No use of textures.
-Looks unprofessional and dated.
-Pretty much everything.
Feel free to be creative. I am not married to any particular color scheme or anything else on my current site. I will reply to every design with comments on what I like and do not like.
