Redesign non-profit homepage

Our new website is nearly ready to go but the homepage is refusing to come together in a cohesive look. All the required components (content) are there already, its just a matter of modifying and reworking them to look good.

Our current website is looking a bit tired (http://www.servantsasia.org) and so we have redesigned it in Joomla (http://www.servantsasia.org/sa) and most of it looks fine. BUT the homepage needs a bit of work. Every piece is already there, but they don't really go together design-wise.

Simpler design reworkings will be preferred because we don't want to do a major re-coding or overhaul.

As you can tell, we are going for a non-corporate, grassroots, urban and slightly grunge look (see here for examples of grunge design: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/200…e-design/).

- slightly grunge-look but not too much - keep all the components on the page

- a major reworking- the menus to change much- a corporate or high-tech look- web 2.0 look- stock photos of poor people - we have a policy of getting permission from people whose photos we use (not just the photogrpaher) - stock photos of objects or scenes are fine though
