* What is it?
60Words is a social network for learning and discovery of new words in most languages of the world.
* What is the main idea?
To learn a new word effectively, you must revisit it many times at appropriate time intervals. For example: you learn a new word and then you see it again after one week, then after one month and finally after three months. At this point you will most likely remember the word very well.
Our system makes this process of phased learning very simple and effective. Whenever and from whichever source (TV, books, in the store etc.) you discover new interesting words, you add them to your database together with translation in your native language. When you have time and are in the mood for practicing, you enter the practice mode and the system asks you the questions from your personal database. The words you already know very well are asked less often and the ones you answered wrong are asked more frequently.
* How is this collaborative (social)?
The part we described is a prerequisite for successful usage of the system. When many people start using it in this way, something else becomes possible. Users can now explore the words other users added to their personal databases (all entries are public by default) and decide to add them to their collection. Users can also create sets of words which are shared with other users of the service.
* Who is it for?
For beginners, advanced learners and people who want to maintain their vocabulary.
