CSTA is a member organization for teachers of science. This includes areas such as biology, chemistry, physical science, environmental and earth science, and a variety of museum and nature center educators. Most of our teachers work in Kindergarten to high school classrooms.
CSTA’s mission is to inspire, promote, and support the learners and teachers of science in the State of Connecticut through: promoting effective science education for all learners; advocating for the science teaching community; providing opportunities for professional growth, and building a collaborative network for educators.
The purpose of the website is to link our members to lessons, workshops and conferences, awards, our publications, and other information that they need in their jobs.
Attachments include our brand new logo. Use this on the site, and as inspiration on how to include the many areas of science that our organization covers.
http://www.NSTA.ORG very professional looking, covers lots of the same areas CSTA needs to, takes the organization to a place that we feel that we need to expand CSTA to. This site is also busier and more cluttered than we would like to see for our new homepage.
http://www.CTA.ORG (California Teachers Association) (very well thought out site, easy to navigate)
http://www.cea.org Connecticut Education Association. Clean crisp site. We don’t like the dual image Sliders on this site.

The homepage should be very clean and simple. It will have a navigation bar that leads users to all of the interior pages. See the page outline for the content that we will need on the homepage. The layout need not follow this outline, but all content areas must be represented and clearly navigable.
Our members span in age from 20’s to 70’s with the expected variations on web skills! The mix includes about 50/50 male/female. All are science education professionals. The site should clearly reflect both professionalism and science education.
The homepage will use something like an AnythingSlider for displaying a variety of image based features. These will include upcoming conferences, the new issue of the Journal/newsletter, special events, and cool features. While it would be nice for the new site to be catchy and stylish, it is very important for it to be intuitive and simple to navigate.
The interior content page should reflect the colors and styles of the homepage and be able to accept a lot of content. This is where the “meat” of our site’s information will be.
Educators’ age ranges from early twenties (new teachers) to sixties and seventies (seasoned teachers). The site should be able to attract this wide range of ages, from younger technology savvy people to those just looking to get their feet wet on the internet. The group is both male and female.
