A roommate and rental property search website. Users can search for properties, contact landlords, upload rental listings. Website is free for user, revenue comes from ads
I'm not opposed to the addition of a US map, similar to http://kwikrents.com/, although I don't think it needs to be that large. www.Apartments.com is a nice site. I'd like something similar to to theirs at the bottom for "search by top city" or something with a section that expands and contains a bunch of text links Things I DONT want: tutorial section featured listings massive graphics that take up a third of the page Photos/graphics are fine, just not huge ones.
Hey everyone. I'm looking for a new design for my website, WhatsTheRent.com. I'm looking for a "clean" design without a excessive amount of flashy graphics or text. I want the user to be able to come to the website and easily find what it is they want to do. I'd like a navigation bar running across the top to include at least: "New Search", "My searches", "My favorites" (those three grouped together), "New listing", and "My Listings" (those two grouped together) Also there needs to be a way to access the following pages, which can either be in the main navigation bar or somewhere else at the top: "My account" (currently called "My User Info"), FAQs, Forums (which links to another website, so perhaps it does not belong in the main navigation bar). Currently we just have a link for "login" but a username & password entry box would be fine as well. The website can be wider than it currently is, but I would like to to not be longer. Visitors should not have to scroll down to access any of the main functions or info. So in other words, when the website loads, all the important information and tools will be in view right away The site's revenue comes from ad clicks, and so the website will need to include space for a couple ads. It is important that the fit in nicely with the design, and also located in eye catching positions. I currently have two ad spaces, the tower is 160 x 600 and the horizontal banner is 468 x 60, the tower on the left and banner on the bottom. Different locations for the ads are fine. Two ads on the home page is probably a good number. If three looks good too then that is fine. Ads also come in sizes of 300 x 250 and 234 x 60. For the main content of the home page, I want the visitors to easily see their two options, which are to search for a listing or to create a new listing. To search, the parameters are "Room" or "unit", city and state or zip, and radius (no rent amounts or bed/bath choices). I'd like to call this "quick search" still as that will take users to the search results page where they can perform an advanced search. The other option is for what is currently called "owners", however I'd like to rename this section to "Property Managers and Landlords", all they need is a button to press for "create listing." I'd like a section somewhere for a bit of text for a welcome message. Features can be mentioned somewhere perhaps (100% free, "search for rooms to rent and apartments at the same time", "Spam filters", "view photos, google maps, and street view") Some sort of photographs or graphics that have to do with roommates, apartments, or renting is fine, just nothing that takes up a massive amount of the page. At the bottom I need links for the following (at least): About, Contacts, Resources, Privacy, Legal, Fair Housing Act, User Safety SECOND PAGE "Search results Page" See current page here: http://tinyurl.com/3ojdpfz. The new site will have the same functionality as this one. I basically want something similar but just more pleasing to the eye. I want the same top navigation bar as the home page. Once again a page that has the ads built in nicely. I Definitely want space for 160 x 600 tower ads running on the left. We currently have horizontal banner ads running after every third listing which also seems to work nicely but it not a must. Once again those are 234 x 60 and 468 x 60. I'll need an "advanced search" control panel somewhere. On the current site, I have in set up vertically on the left side, however I think it may work better as a horizontal panel at the top. I'm not too picky there, as long as it fits all the current info. The other thing I need is the panel/block for each listing that comes up on the search results page. I need the info to be laid out in the same fashion as the current site. Title, preview photo, the basic info (room type, rent amonunt, lease term, ect…) The address somewhere, buttons for "contact" (this button should "jump" out a bit more than the others), "save", "share", and "print". Then the bottom of each listing has drop down panels for "details" "photos" and "map", and I think we will add "video" and "Street View." When you click on the panel it expands to show the additional info. When "details" is opened up there is a row of additional info (Unit sq ft, extra storage, children present....other amenities) followed by the users written description. See example with all the drop down panels open here: http://tinyurl.com/4xjlwre Currently I use cheesy little stars to allow users to rate a property but I am open to better ideas than that as well. There also needs to be buttons/drop downs near the top for "sort by" show XX per page," "Compare", and "hide all / show all" So use the current search results page I have as a guide, just make it look a hell of a lot better. Any questions please ask.
A new logo is fine. mine is attached. If you are going to make a new one, I'd like it if you work my old one into the site somewhere just for nostalgic reason. A new color scheme is fine. I'd say "soft" colors though, nothing you used on say, a nightclub website. Any questions please ask, I will try and be quick to respond
