We are a nonprofit creating a free, universal database cataloging the global research ecosystem--including scientific papers, researchers, journals, and universities.

1) Our database maps the *connections* between scientists, the papers they write, the institutions they work at, and the journals they publish in. So we are thinking a logo that looks network-y would be good (the ol' dots-and-lines is an good choice, but open to other ideas).
2) Our database will be open and FREE (we are grant-funded), and so we'd like something open-y, like an unlocked padlock.
3) It's a very technical product, aimed at software developers and scientists, so we want a techy typeface: think things like OCR, (semi-)monspace, and engineering fonts. But it needs to be a MODERN techy typeface! We have gotten a lot of early-2000s fonts and those are no good. Great inspiration here: https://www.pinterest.com/youworkfo…cal-fonts/
4) We need to appeal to some big, old, conservative companies--but we ourselves are a small, dynamic, and unconventional organization. So we need a good balance between those :)
