I had the random idea to include water-themed puns and am extremely happy with how cute it came out.")

I worked closely with the client and made multiple small tweaks in the color, pose, and layout until we had a collection of different versions that she liked. Unique challenges for this piece were keeping up a good composition and avoiding too much empty space. I also decided to leave the mermaid simple and faceless in order to keep it more elegant and to keep the attention on the more important elements.")

I decided to take a calculated risk with this submission, showing my skill not only with a computer, but also with traditional methods like ink and watercolor. I think it's actually a great method that people overlook in decor, adding some rich artistic texture and flair to the space that vector images often just can't provide!
For this piece, I started by sketching out the example photo, then layering watercolor, ink, colored pencil, and just a tad of acrylic paint to get the desired effect. Then, I scanned the image and tweaked the colors and textures a little in Photoshop. In the end, I think it results in something that looks as clean and professional as any vector illustration, but a little bit different and fun.")

For this submission, I decided to show versatility by adding my own artistic flair and knowledge to three of the given photos. I draw dogs so often that in a lot of cases I don't even use photo references anymore, which might be helpful to the client because I can help come up with totally new poses and ideas. I also wanted a cute and cohesive color palette for this one, so that the viewer's gaze travels around without being caught up on one face. I think this sort of idea used as a repeating pattern would be so cute for socks, blankets, and other fabrics.
For my process, I first started sketching in pencil, then outlined the drawings in pen before coloring in Photoshop. I love vector programs like Illustrator as well, but think the Photoshop brushes better provide that soft, artistic look I was hoping for.")

I wanted my submission to have a lot of power- displaying my handle over anatomy, color, and concept. In the image that inspired this one, a Nintendo Switch could just barely be seen under the sleeping dog's pillow; this inspired me to run with something a little bit more interesting than just an adorable sleeping corgi. These sorts of connections are what makes viewers remember and resonate with the design.
My process for this design was to do the line work with ink on paper and then color it in Photoshop. I also spent some time playing with the color palette, because I knew I wanted something a little more playful here than just natural corgi coloration.")

The client wanted the faces of a cow, a pig, a dog, and a cat drawn in a simple black-and-white line style with the text \"Love all Animals.\" For me, the actual drawing was the easiest part of this one, as I've been drawing animals since childhood and needed very minimal referencing. I first drew the faces with ink on paper before editing and moving around the elements in Photoshop and Illustrator. I chose this configuration because it would allow each animal face to cover a large surface area. The diamond shape also is fashionable and would allow the design to fit neatly on other products (like stickers, business cards, bags, etc) should the client want that someday. I was especially pleased with the typeface I chose, as I think it mimics the line quality of the illustrations almost perfectly and looks like it belongs there.")
