The map had to be reasonably accurate yet still have a hint of style reflecting the period the book is set in (1500s). Buildings representing several towns the protagonist visited needed to be included, and they had to be correct for c.1500.
Note: this was an initial run-through of the map. A later iteration had details added to Ireland, and some design tweaks.")

The company's branding colors had to be kept close to so the map wouldn't clash with any part of the website.

The map has been developed from an earlier design which covered a different book's story line. It now includes more than twice the land area of the previous map.
I added in a fanciful old damaged paper/hide frame, hinting at a treasure map style.")
